“American Dream, you say?” by Jack Hodil

Your aggressive ambition

will be better suited elsewhere,

so take that shimmer away.

Just look at our flag,

Jack Hodil is an English major and Creative Writing minor at the University of Richmond. His work has recently appeared or is forthcoming in Word Riot, Pure Francis, the Camroc Press Review, Quantum Poetry Magazine, Phantom Kangaroo, the Front Porch Review, and a handful of other places. When not writing, he can usually be found avoiding school work, battling inanimate objects, purchasing cheap packs of cigarettes with loose change, or watching cage fights with his action figures.
